Spanish Steps

Piazza di SpagnaPiazza di Spagna is a large area that comprehends the Fountain of the Barcaccia, the Trinita' Dei Monti staircase that leads to the homonymous church. The Fountain of the Barcaccia was conceived by Bernini in 1627-29 as a fabulous ship with the pope's emblems, the sun and bees. The staircase was built in white marble by Francesco De Sanctis for Pope Benedict XIII in 1724-30 and leads to the church, started in 1495 by Charles VIII King of France and ended in 1586 by Pope Sisto V. The area has many other interesting places to visit and for shopping, but normally the Piazza Di Spagna is meant for a relaxing walk or chat sitting on the scalinade. The Piazza Di Spagna branches onto other main streets for the most stylish shopping, like Via Del Corso, Via Del Babuino and Via Condotti. Distance from the hotel approximately 5 minutes walk.
